The Camera or The Creativity: Which Came First?

It has occurred to me over recent months, as it may have you, that social media ok Instagram, has opened up a whole world of creativity to people who didn’t even know they wanted to take photos.  In none of my school years or further education did I know I wanted to take pictures of pretty things, and ultimately it be a way of making a living.

Whilst upside down the other night in downward dog (err Yoga?!) the two questions below came to me:
How am I creative?   If you want to get a little bit further behind this thinking you can watch a video that inspired the above (here) it’s by Sir Ken Robinson, great thinker and totally my take on things too.
In Harrogate last week with my cousin and our kids, I was aware that, on a regular (albeit lovely) day I was walking along taking photos of most things; the children, the flowers, the townhouses.  I have not always been this way inclined.

It wasn’t that I was trying to capture every moment to brag about on Instagram (hello!) nor that I was so busy trying to capture the ‘perfect shot’ that I couldn’t be in the moment, but to me it is enjoyable to walk along snapping away!

This is a new thing.  Taking pictures of beautiful things followed by the process of creating a feed or stream with them… I LOVE it!  Confession: I’m a little picky and if, after posting, I check my feed and I don’t like how the latest pics sits with the others, it comes down!
The purchase of a new camera a few months ago (Panasonic Lumix GF6) and discovering Instagram have definitely been instrumental in the desire to create something beautiful.  Yet to think that ten years ago this was not available?  Amazing!  We have Apps and editing tools at our fingertips, once only afforded to ‘designers’, now we can all experiment.  This is not idling away the time, it is being CREATIVE.
Creativity is ideas, it is new territory and is definitely the discovery of OUR STYLE OF LOVE.  I’m discovering my STYLE OF LOVE all the time.  Maybe you’re more creative than you realise….?  Can I encourage you to see the time spent doing things you love not as wasted time, but as time exploring your creativity which is vital to your STYLE OF LOVE.  The world needs it!

Take me Shopping?

“Can you take me shopping”… words I always like to hear because, although I don’t really get excited over the thought of going shopping, I’ve realised I’m just genuinely good at it… isn’t that funny…!  Some hate it and I admit, if it’s crowded I can’t abide it, but little and often seems to be a good way to go!

It is lovely helping people spend their hard-earned pennies and then seeing them so happy in their new attire – ah joy!  My muse for this weeks’ post agreed to me snapping away as it was  too good a photographic opportunity not to make the most of, so off we went!

We only had a small window of two and a half hours (I like short and sweet shopping) and on the day we went it rained so hard….all day (did I say it rained?!!) so went to a nearby newly-opened shopping mall, The Trinity Centre in Leeds.

Cross-body bags are a must for shopping and Nicola’s cute heeled-brogues made it a great outfit!

Coffee is always a good idea!

Although not looking for undergarments (at all), we spent a lot of time in Victoria’s Secret where, amongst other things, this shirt below was purchased.  It has a fabulous Moroccan-type print, is slim-fitting and perfect over jeans or if you dare, with a longer slip underneath and just with sandals.

Never be afraid to use an item made for one thing to serve the purpose of another!

Ahoy there! Anything Nautical is just catching my eye at the moment.

The below garment placed on the back of the fitting-room door was just so ‘ah are you kidding’ subtle…not.  But the one thing I kept saying during our shop was “just try it on” .  Nicola was so open to trying new things which made it a dream and the result, she now has so many new pieces she would never have dreamed of trying had she been shopping alone.

This T-shirt was just hanging on the back of the door with these words inside...

Had to feature some of the pieces at Ted Baker here because although very loud and bold which isn’t for everyone, it amazes me the prints, colours and fabrics the industry is now able to use… I cannot help but be amazed!

Stunning Sequin Jacket

Statement Shorts… now I wouldn’t, but would you?

Power Shoes!

The Waiting Game – Cameran and I … #selfie!

Someone else waiting!

Job well done… clearly not a secret!

After all that…. Ahhh!

Our Antipasti… there would perhaps be more food shots but always forget to take pics of food because I dive in too soon!… half way through “oops!

Why we love toast house

Where the Magic Happens

The very smell of toast says ‘comfort’, ‘home’, ‘more-ish’ so although I don’t even eat bread/ toast (crikey- it’s carbs!) … I do here!

toast house Ilkley is the brainchild of Natasha Byers and Lisa Jenkins.  Opened just 6 months ago it is still a relatively new coffee house on the Ilkley scene but whereas Starbucks’ goal is to be third place (i.e 1.home,, 3.Starbucks) – this place for me is that… and then some.  Everything you experience from the menu to the neon pink handwritten tags is their idea, it is absolutely 100% their STYLE OF LOVE.  Oh do we LOVE those places!!

toast house is a place you feel.  Everywhere you look there is ingenuity, creativity and quite frankly, fabulous kookiness!  There are photographs of grandparents working in the mills, an old bench for kids to play at, sackcloth-covered old cinema seats… and for the love of all things ‘ahhh’ fairy lights that connect with that inner, year-round Christmas!!

The menu, quite simply is toast + a plethora of toppings, amazing cakes and the best coffee!  You can buy the jam, the bread and (oh we have one) the hand-printed tote bag!  toast house is a place we love because it is clearly two local girls having a blast and inviting the rest of us to join in the ride.  I don’t know about you but I’m on board!

Love to hear what you think about toast house… your kind of place?!
